Fitler Square Townhouse

A historic Gothic Revival rowhouse just west of Rittenhouse Square, thoughtfully modernized with a touch of whimsy. Returning clients approached the renovation with the goal of restoring the home while reimagining it for contemporary living. The design sought to preserve historic details wherever possible while selectively introducing modern elements that complement the architecture—most notably in the reinterpreted marble fireplace surrounds found throughout the home. A cohesive color palette and carefully curated material selections create a seamless dialogue between old and new, often blurring the distinction between original features and contemporary interventions. The first floor—including the powder room, living room, dining room, and kitchen—was reconfigured to improve flow and functionality, most significantly by opening the kitchen to the dining room. Custom iron windows and doors were introduced throughout, lending architectural continuity. On the second floor, a den and guest bath are enveloped in richly textured glasscloth and enhanced by custom millwork and furnishings. The home’s transformation culminates on the third floor with a serene primary suite anchored by the pièce de résistance: a sculptural and richly detailed primary bath that balances drama, elegance, and restraint.
