Washington Square Residence

It’s hard to believe that this warm, inviting, and comfortable living space in Philadelphia’s Lippincott Publishing Building was once a raw shell of concrete and metal. After downsizing from a large suburban home, these empty nesters made the switch to city living and called on MSD to convert their ‘empty box’ into a home that’s equal parts practical and elegant. In an effort to preserve the architectural integrity of this Society Hill landmark, the existing timber beams and brick construction became focal points of the design. Custom furnishings, such as a locally made dining table that expands to seat from four to eight, were the perfect solution to the clients’ desire for functionality.
